Mission Statement
We design our projects to be physically interactive experiences with our audiences, to reflect the realities of our time, to occur in unusual spaces, and to be created with passionate attention.
Beacon Dance is a progressive voice in the Atlanta performance community. We develop our programming through the lens of social and economic justice and the protection of the natural world. We believe in the creative abilities of all people. As a collective of artists representing a diverse range of backgrounds, abilities and skills, we seek to interact with those who make up our community so that we may reflect the issues and concerns facing us all. We encourage our community to embrace the arts (dance in particular) and actively make them a part of their daily life. We are creating a new paradigm for a dance organization that is based on inclusion, acceptance, and the development of one’s creative abilities, leaving aside all elements of hierarchy and competition.
Under the direction of D. Patton White, Beacon has become a community-based arts organization focusing on the creative process. Interaction in multiple ways with the community is crucial to the philosophy that drives Beacon.

The mission of Beacon Dance is to develop people’s understanding of the art of movement as a means of communication. Beacon Dance is a professional dance organization presenting classes, workshops and performances to the general public, and offering studio space for the creative process. We embrace the power of conceptual art, and to that end, our work is a series of projects linked to the basic elements of dance: The body, time, space and energy.
